More than twice in a year is too many, in my opinion. It's not unheard of for people to break up then maybe get back together years down the line; they are changed people, but even then, most exes are leary of each other. Many times, even after years have passed, the old crap tends to come back up or old resentments never seemed to go away, no matter how much the person has changed. You're jaded and rubbed the wrong way of that person forever. I was on and off again with my highschool boyfriend for 4 years. Nothing ever changed and it wasn't going to.

Once is plenty if the reason was a good one. Twice is enough no matter the reason.
