Compared to the NBA, they play against each other in one season. 1 team plays against 29 teams once, twice, three, and four times. I’m asking this question because I’m just new to football. The first NFL game I saw was the Chiefs and 49ers in the Super bowl in February this year.

football has alot less games in their season because its a ruff sport
Football teams only play 16 games in a season and there are more than 16 NFL teams.
The way the NFL schedule is set up it is not possible to play every team each year. I have studied and understand how the schedule works and is put together. The 3 other teams in your own division play twice home and away. That is 6 games. There are a total of 12 games played in your own conference every year. This is every team in another division once and that rotates every 3 years for instance this year the NFC East plays every team in the NFC West so every team in the NFC South plays every team in the NFC North. The NFC East this season is playing every team in the AFC North just like they did in 2016 2012 2008 and 2004 and that rotates every four years The only difference is the location of were these games were played rotates the Eagles play in Pittsburgh but in 2016 the two played in Philadelphia. Now the other two team each plays depends on the way they finished in the previous years standings using the Eagles who finished first in 2019 play the first place finishers in the NFC South which was New Orleans and the first place finisher in the NFC North which is Green Bay. When you understand how this formula works it is really easy to see who your team will play next season the only thing you must wait for is the ending standings to see the same place finishers in the two other divisions at the end of the season .
NFL has always had a different system,
The season isn't long enough. They can only play one game a week rather than several like other sports.
Teams can't play more than once per season; a 31 game regular season (which is what it would require) would double the season length and you would need rosters more than double the current size.
They only play 16 games in a season, and there are 32 teams, they can't play all of them in the same season.
6 games in their own division (two times each)
4 games against an in conference division
4 games against an out of conference division
2 games against teams that finished in the same place in their division as they did.
Because each teach team plays 16 games in a season and there are 32 teams in the league.
Their are 32 teams and 16 games per team. Each team plays 2 games against their division teams and the remainder against other teams, usually a cycle through the other divisions each year. To play every team would take twice as long as the season already does and the entitled millionaires are already crying about the owners wanting to add a 17th game to the schedule.
