If it's not could someone please explain to me what exp(a.b) is equal to.
exp(a.b) = ( exp(a) ) ^ b or
exp(a.b) = ( exp(b) ) ^ a
I'm assuming your expression on the left is
e^(ab). If that is the case, it is equivalent to (e^a)^b.
Properties of exponents apply even to the number e.
exp(a.b) = e^(a.b) = (e^a)^b
exp(a)+exp(b) = e^a + e^b
