Are martin smith guitars really that bad? (specifically w100)?
I would love to buy a second hand yamaha or fender acoustic guitar but can't find any online that are close to me and we only have one second hand shop in my town which only had eletric guitars.
I have found brand new martin smith guitar (w100 model) including the strap, picks and spare strings for 39.99. I'm aware that cheap is probs not the best option so i looked up martin smith guitars and there are some people saying they're fine for beginers but other saying they come out of tune all the time and don't have a good sound. Are they really that bad? or is it people being brand loyal, as a complete guitar newb I find it very hard to believe that you would be able to hear the sound difference when learning the guitar, but having said that the only introments I can play are the keyboard and the harmonica and even though I have nice brands of both, I personally don't think you can tell the difference between those and cheaply branded ones.

If you're talking about *any* new guitar in that price range, then you're talking about toys - not guitars. Save yourself the money, headaches and trouble. Even a 100-200 bucks is extremely low cost for a guitar.
Sure, it may sound OK, but it will break down and/or be totally unplayable in no time. Like I said, it's like throwing money out the window.
Stay to well known brands like Yamaha, Ibanez, Jasmine by Takamine, Takamine, Epiphone, Washburn, Seagull, Fender, Applause, Mitchell, Breedlove, Aria, Luna, Laguna, Hohner, Alvarez, and Dean. It is very difficult to find anything below $100 which is playable and is going to hold up.
Sure, there are many better brands out there, but the above should provide you decent quality for the $100-300 range. if I could pick one brand, then it would be Ibanez. They make great playing and solid guitars with nice, player-friendly necks.
The best bet if you don't have the money, is probably to get a used one from a private seller, eBay, Craigslist or similar. Just don't buy one without having someone with the right knowledge try it out for you first. There is a lot of scam out there!
